(PHOTO/FILE)FUFA Big League-PlayoffsKyetume FC 4-1 Kansai Plascon StarTimes Stadium, Lugogo Saturday, 18-05-2019LUGOGO – Kyetume became the third team to be promoted from the 2018/19 Big League to the StarTimes Premier League following a 4-1 victory over Kansai Plascon on Saturday afternoon.In the game played at the StarTimes Stadium in Lugogo, veteran striker Robert Ssentongo helped himself to a brace while Benson Tahomera and Edrisa Kabazango scored the other goals for Kyetume.Robert Kitegenyi scored Kansai’s only goal on a day that his side was outscored despite having the Lion-share of possession.Kyetume got of to a good start and would find themselves ahead inside 9 minutes. Lanky defender Benson Tahomera unleashed a ferocious drive from 25 yards which beat Kansai custodian Zakaria Nsubuga.Despite conceding first, Kansai never looked fazed as they continued playing in their usual calm and composed manner.On the other hand, Kyetume were relentless in their attacks and found the second goal on 17 minutes.A teasing Vincent Kayizi cross was parried into the direction of Edrisa Kabazango who headed the ball into the back of the net on the second time of asking after his first initial attempt had rattled off the cross bar.Behind 2-0 with less than a quarter of the game played, Kansai started mounting attacks at the Kyetume goal.On 26 minutes, Allan Oryek missed Kansai’s first real opportunity of the game as he headed over a Diego Katumba cross from the right.At the half hour mark, Kyetume made a substitution to try and make a few adjustments to the team as Davis Sekbyara was taken off and replaced by Michael Bugembe.Towards the end of the first half, Kansai got two further opportunities to reduce the deficit but failed to convert.First Robert Ssentongo Jr saw a shot from outside the area go agonizingly wide before he headed an Oryek delicious cross wide of the near post, while unmarked in the area.By the end of the first 45 minutes, Kyetume were two goals to the good but it was Kansai playing the better football.Four minutes after the re-start, Tahomera blasted a free-kick towards goal, Nsubuga fumbled it and it feel into the path of Robert Ssentongo. However, the custodian reacted quickly to deflect the rebound out and over for a fruitless corner kick.At the other end, Ssentongo Jr found himself free in the area but his header off another Oryek cross could only come off the far post enabling Kyetume to clear their lines.Four minutes later, it was 3-0 to Kyetume. Ssentongo robbed Moses Kibirige of the ball in the box, squeezed it under Nsubuga and into the back of the net.From there on wards, Kansai looked to have been broken and for Kyetume, it was just a matter of seeing out the result.Ssentongo made it 4-0 to Kyetume on 72 minutes, neatly controlling a Kayizi cross and slotting in past Nsubuga.With a minute to play of normal time, Robert Kitegenyi pulled one back for Kansayi but it was too late to mount a come back.The result means Kyetume joins Proline and Wakiso Giants as the three teams that are promoted into the StarTimes Uganda Premier League next season.What they said after the gameJackson Mayanja, Kyetume head coach“I am delighted that after years without a top tier team, Mukono finally has Kyetume.“It was not an easy game like our season has been but in the end, we did our job and are into the Premier League.“I am not sure if i will stay but what i can say, i am extremely happy to have led this side to promotion.Peter Ssengonzi, Kansai assistant coach“Like it is in football, you win some and lose the others.“Today, we lost to an experienced side that beat us with maturity in the end.“We are going back to the drawing board and try to ensure we get over the line next time.Comments last_img
