Roosevelt Skerrit – “the most visionary leader in the Caribbean today”

first_imgSenator Arley Gill. Minister of Culture and Public Relations Officer of the National Democratic Congress in Grenada Senator Arley Gill, has announced that Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit of Dominica is the most visionary leader in the Caribbean today. The Prime Minister held a public meeting in his Constituency of Vieille Case on the heels of a recent court verdict which ruled that both he and Education Minister Petter Saint-Jean were properly nominated at the 2009 general elections, dismissing two election petitions filed by the Opposition United Workers Party. Senator Arley Gill told Sunday’s meeting that he has seen the ongoing development works and regards it as the most progressive type of development in the history of the island.“Any student of history will know that this is the most progressive type of development in the history of Dominica. This is the uncontested, progressive period of development that Dominica has ever experienced since its independence. And I say to you that Roosevelt Skerrit is not essentially the most visionary leader that Dominica has seen but as a matter of fact he is the most erstwhile, he is the most dynamic, he is the most visionary leader in the Caribbean today.”Senator Arley also highlighted the achievements of former prime minister of Grenada Maurice Bishop and noted that “since the passing of Maurice Bishop the best leader the Caribbean has ever seen is none other than Comrade Roosevelt Skerrit”.Senator Arley further stated his reasons for naming Prime Minister Skerrit the best leader of the Caribbean since Mr. Bishop.Prime Minister Skerrit and Senator Gill in conversation at Sunday’s meeting“Roosevelt Skerrit reminds us of Maurice Bishop; his boldness, his courage, his vision, he is walking where other leaders fear to trod, he has broken new barriers. I recall when Roosevelt Skerrit joined ALBA all the leaders in the rest of the Caribbean they were quivering in their boots and they criticized him from Bridgetown to Port of Spain, now you have witnessed for yourselves how many islands in the Caribbean that have since joined the ALBA.” The Senator told the Dominica Labour Party supporters; “In Roosevelt Skerrit you have a champion of the working class, you have a champion of the underclass, you have a man who feels it and a man who knows it and at his time of need you must stand by him”. He concluded with a quote from deceased former prime minister of Grenada Maurice Bishop, who would often say to them, “Let us move forward on our feet and not our knees”. “The achievements of the Labour Party here, the members of Cabinet and the speakers have lauded those achievements so it is not for me to rehash those achievements. All I would say is that now you can come into Dominica in the day as well as in the night and that achievement has been brought under Roosevelt Skerrit.
