Ten killed in Bihar thunderstorm

first_imgAt least ten people lost their lives in a thunderstorm that swept Bihar in the early hours of Tuesday. Most of them were killed in lightening strikes or wall collapses.The State Disaster Management Department said two deaths each were reported from Aurangabad and Lakhisarai, and Madhubani districts, while one each was reported from Patna, Purnia, Darbhanga, Madhepura and other districts. In all, seven persons were killed in lightning strikes, while three from wall collapses and falling trees.Disaster Management Department, Principal Secretary, Pratyaya Amrit has asked District Magistrates to release ₹4 lakh as ex-gratia to the next of kin of the deceased.A portion of the pontoon bridge in Danapur, connecting Patna with north Bihar, also drifted away in the thunderstorm, affecting vehicular traffic. At several places uprooted trees fell on roads blocking traffic for hours.The thunderstorm, lightning, rain and winds up to 80 kmph, hit the State early on Tuesday morning.last_img
